International Day of Women and Girls in Science

In 2015, the UN General Assembly designated February 11 as “International Day of Women and Girls in Science.” Less than 30 percent of the world’s researchers are women. From 1901 to 2021, 975 people won the Nobel Prize, of which 54 were women and girls.

For UNESCO, gender equality is a global priority, and supporting young girls, educating them and promoting their ability to put their ideas into practice is a lever for development and world peace.

The purpose of celebrating this day is to promote the role of women and girls in the development of science.
