World Health Organization plans in 2024

The year 2023 has come to an end, and millions of health workers are facing an unprecedented number of climate-related health challenges and disaster from new and expanding conflicts. In the 77th World Health Assembly (May 2024), countries will review a new international agreement known as the Joint Pandemic Agreement and Coordination. The purpose of this agreement is to prevent the recurrence of the destructive health and social effects caused by COVID-19 in the event of an outbreak in the future

 

Of course, last year, strange events were experienced in the field of health, which were associated with the measures of the World Health Organization, some of them are as follows:

  • 2023 was an unprecedented year for the elimination of diseases; Infectious diseases such as malaria in Azerbaijan and Tajikistan, human trypanosomiasis in Ghana, trachoma in Mali and Iraq, lymphatic filariasis and visceral leishmaniasis in Bangladesh.

  • In 2023, many infectious diseases such as anthrax, chikungunya, cholera, Crimean Congo hemorrhagic fever, dengue fever, diphtheria and influenza were prevalent.
  • In the earthquakes of Afghanistan, Nepal, Syria and Turkey, the devastating floods in Libya, Pakistan and South Sudan, as well as heat waves, fires, droughts, etc., the World Health Organization prioritized emergency medical teams to send emergency medical aid, etc.
  • Last year extreme heat, extreme weather events and air pollution killed millions of people. The World Health Organization published an operational framework for strengthening and improving the resilience of health systems against climate change.
